New Addition!

Last Tuesday I arrived at a clients house. There was a rather large Basset Hound that greeted me at the door. During the course of my visit I found out that his name was "Two", and he was going to be taken to the pound after my visit. Evidently my clients knew another couple that was going through a divorce. The soon to be ex-husband had called my client the Thursday before and asked if they could watch Two for the evening while he was packing and loading his moving truck. They informed him that there landlord didn't allow pets, but he could stay for the evening. After the soon to be ex-husband hadn't returned by noon the following day, they tried calling him and found that his phone number had been disconnected. They called Mrs soon to be ex-husband, and she reported that Mr ex-husband had informed her that he was dealing with getting rid of the dog because neither of them could take them were they were moving. She also refused to come pick him up and didn't have any contact info for Mr. ex-husband.

My client and her husband put an ad on craigslist hoping to find a home for him. No one had responded by Monday, and there land lord was putting pressure on them to get rid of him. Sadly they had decided to take him to the pound if no one had offered to give him a home by 4:00 on Tuesday. I arrived at 1:00 and decided to bring him home.

As many of you know our family had lost a wonderful Basset Hound named Magu last March. About eight weeks ago we began discussing getting another hound. We were debating rather Elaka, our 1&1/2 year old would do better with a young puppy, or an older rescued hound. Its odd how after what stated as a regular day at work for me, we didn't have to discuss it any further.

Two and I started to drive back home from Eugene, and I mad the obligatory "Honey, don't be mad, K?" phone call to Heather, who was excited about our arrival. We introduced Two and Elaka over a walk around the neighborhood. With in ten minutes of being home they wee wrestling and chasing each other around the living room. Two wasted no time making him self at home. He finds our couch comfortable, our bone supply plentiful, and our bed adequate.

Our friends in Houndom Rich and Agnes were kind enough to bring there two Hounds Remy, and Coltrane over to help Elaka welcome Two to the pack. Coltrane provided his usual running commentary, as all four hounds turned into a Tasmanian devil like flurry of ears and feet tearing through the living room.

I took Two to the vet yesterday, and a lot of what Heather and I thought was confirmed. He is way over weight and needs a diet. Aside from his general rotundness, and some yeast in his ears and skin, he is a healthy hound.
